May is Bike Month 2018 a Big Success!

Generally favorable weather prevailed for key May is Bike Month 2018 events, highlighted by the May is Bike Month Proclamation and the Pedal the Parkway events.  Additional events were the Bike to School Day, Bike & a Movie, Bike to Work Day and PechaKucha night. Thanks to Jim Gullo for organizing the overall May is Bike Month Events this year!  Additional thanks to all those on the MIBM Committee including Allen Turnbull, Ryan and Gretchen Bedell, Reed Nester, Nancy Carter, Michael Byrd, Linda Coppinger and Rick Nevins.

May is Bike Month Proclamation

Each year the Governor officially proclaims “May is Bike Month” in Virginia.    A group of over 15 cyclists shuttled to Richmond on Friday, May 4th and cycled back to Williamsburg with the "May is Bike Month" Proclamation and then presented to local officials.   Thanks to Linda Coppinger for organizing the event this year!  In this photo,  Linda presents the Proclamation to Williamsburg Mayor Freiling.

Pedal the Parkway

The annual Pedal the Parkway event was held on May 5th.  This is the only day of the year to bicycle, walk or jog the Colonial Parkway from Newport Ave in Williamsburg to Jamestown in a car-free environment, 9 miles each way.  This event is totally free, family friendly and special needs athlete friendly.  Nearly 1300 participants (including 400 children) attended.  Thanks to Reed Nester, event organizer and all the volunteers who helped make this year's event such as big success!  Click on the image to see a video!
